Social Harmony with Prospect of Indian Philosophy

Every human being on earth aspires for peace and happiness irrespective of his diverse family, caste, creed, faith or religion which is possible with the harmony. However what we see in reality is different from such aspiration, we see the conflicts between families society states and nations and the cause of this is found because of the diverse thoughts, faith and other diversities. So the question remains to be answered and find solutions to resolve the same and establish peace. The Indian Philosophy has addressed the issue in true sense to establish the harmony between society. The Vedantic Thoughts the soul of Indian philosophy is the philosophy of oneness f all beings on the earth. In order to understand this one has to go into depth and put the thoughts into action on the smallest segment of society that is family. Swami Vivekananda rightly puts it as –“all evils comes relying upon differences and all good comes from faith in equality, in the underlying sameness and oneness of things. This is the great Vedantic ideal”

The divisive mentality, conflicts, violence bloodshed and brutality that we see in today’s world can be arrested only when we realise and put in practice the ideals of the Vedantic thoughts. The Vedantic thoughts are aimed at the oneness of all beings on the earth, one needs to understand and out into practice in day to life to redress the diversity being seen in the life. As per the absolute point of view the which is termed as ‘Parmarthic Sat’ it shuns the diversity but not at empirical level that ‘vyavaharika Sat’. It  addresses the diversity of religions cultures and so on, on the grounds that it is essential for the progress. The shastara teachings is about the unity in diversity. In the world all religions culture language has its own place depending upon the geographical location or the demography of the society has its own place but the Indian thought process based on oneness tells that this diversity should not become the means of conflict, destroying the oneness of the Nation. This is the Indian philosophical wisdom. Swami Vivekananda in his address in world religion Conference in Chicago addressed as under:

“I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true.”

He further resolves the conflict of diversity as under:

"As the different streams having their sources in different places all mingle their water in the sea, so, O Lord, the different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee."

Above address truly explain how important role of Indian Philosophy in maintaining the harmony in the society. It is irrespective of the thoughts place and belief that individual have philosophy applies to it only requirement is the faith. In Indian Philosophy the Vedantic thoughts do not require to be proved right as they are not merely thoughts but the experiences. On need to have faith and  put the same into action. Whoever has believed the thoughts could resolve the problem without any difficulty and could prove that conflicts are not there but have been created by our own thoughts trying emphasize its own way of expression and forcing other to believe the same. In the superlative form of such thought is being Fanatic for his own belief. The answer of this is that “there may be another way too”

Mahatma Gandhi in his own words “I believe in the rock bottom doctrine of Advaita and my interpretation Advaita excludes totally any idea of superiority at any stage whatsoever. I believe implicitly that all men are born equal. All—whether born in India or England or America or any circumstances  whatsoever-have the same soul as any other…..I have fought this doctrine of superiority in South Africa, inch by inch, and it is because of that inherent belief that I delight in calling myself as scavenger, a spinner, a weaver, a farmer and labourer… I consider that it is unmanly for any person to claim superiority over a fellow human being” (Young India 29.09.1927 page 329)

Under the impact Advaita, Gandhijee admitted that absolute truth is one which is underlying reality behind the diversity of objects and religious beliefs. Needless to quote that belief of Mahatma could make him Mahatma and establish the equality even in foreign land, thereafter he could weave the cloth of National Integration in India on which our Constitution stands strong.

As a matter of fact in today’s world the man is mesmerised by his own thoughts and in the process of proving the same as right to other generates conflicts.

The world of All Mighty is the place to live harmonically and use the  resources judicially perhaps is the mantra to live in peace. The need is realise the self as one and abandon selfishness as has been rightly quoted by someone “The nature has everything one need but not for greed” in our Isho- upnishad this is being expressed as under:

इशावास्यमिदं सर्वं यत्किञ्च जगत्यां जगत्।

तेन त्यक्तेन भुञ्जीथा मा गृध: कस्यस्विध्दनम्।।

This means whatever is there in this globe is the gift from God and whatever you receive here use the same without getting attached to same whatever is there is not the property of any individual.

While living in this world one has to understand the mantra in its soul and spirit without any personal reservations. Indian Philosophy sometimes is wrongly propagated as renouncing the worldly possession which is not correct. It emphasizes the judiciousness of the use of possession and look to fellow beings for their needs. Like our body which has different organs for different function but the body as a whole is one and any organ getting pain effects the whole body. In the same way all beings of the world are part of one any one being effected will have the direct or indirect effect on whole like the human body. It is the prayer we offer peace is of Universal nature without any exclusion

सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिन: सर्वे सन्तुनरमया:।

सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चित् दु:ख भाग् भवेत्।।

Every one should be happy and healthy every one should see welfare of every one No one should have pain or sorrow.

With such philosophy if the world today is suffering then it is only because of ignorance of the importance of the same and running after the materialistic gains exploiting nature being selfish and egoist. Our concept of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam has taken a back seat and each sect is trying to impose his belief on others. looking to this situation Swamijee in his Chicago address spoke like this:

“Sectarianism, bigotry, and its horrible descendant, fanaticism, have long possessed this beautiful earth. They have filled the earth with violence, drenched it often and often with human blood, destroyed civilisation and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons, human society would be far more advanced than it is now.”

We must remember that the episode of the world tower bombing was because of this fanatism.

The Indian Philosophy believes in the team work and not the individuality this is why we pray to God before starting any work like this

ऊं सहना भवतु । सह नौ भुनक्तु । सहवीर्यं करवावहै ।

तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु । मा विद्विषावहै ।।

”Let Him protect us both (the teacher and the taught)  together, May He bless us with the bliss of knowledge. Let us exert together. May what  we study , be well studied. May we not hate (quarrel with ) each other.

Summarising the thoughts put above we can conclude that Indian Philosophy or to say the Vedantic thoughts are the true guide for the harmonically living as per the belief of one ness. It teaches to work without ego and as team without having the thought of ‘I Do’. It also has the belief that whatever we have is the grace of almighty and while we are free to use the same should not have the greed. As per Swami Chinmayananda “While the scientists were the seekers of the truth working in the outer field of material objects our Rishis and sages chose the inner world of subjects and through it in all-pervading truth.” Both are important the need is of the blending of sacred and secular.
